FAQs

I can't think of any health condition that is not helped by an improved lifestyle. Even a broken bone can be helped by lowering overall body inflammation. But obviously, you should see a doctor for any urgent, acute issues. Our observation is that doctors struggle to help with long-term chronic health conditions that, in many cases, are largely caused by your lifestyle. Doctors are also unable to help if they can't figure out a diagnosis. I am not limited like a doctor is and can help you make lifestyle changes without needing a doctor's diagnosis. In many cases, we are able to help with chronic symptoms that the doctor wasn't able to diagnose. Here is a very partial list of symptoms and conditions that have been helped by lifestyle changes.

  • Allergies, acne, rosacea
  • Blood sugar, diabetes
  • Infertility, insomnia
  • Headaches, fogginess
  • Indigestion, bloating, digestive issues
  • Fatigue, lethargy, malaise
  • Inflammation, pain, asthma
  • Low sex drive, PMS, irregular cycles
  • Depression, anxiety, emotional fragility
  • Hypertension, cholesterol problems
  • Excessive weight gain, can't lose weight
  • Fibromyalgia, back pain

If you don't see your symptoms or condition, I suggest you schedule a free call with me to discuss it.

One of the unique things about FDN is that we recognize that people are unique and have different nutritional needs. So, we utilize an extensive online questionnaire to find out what foods work best for you. Also, you are tested for food sensitivities. We then coach you on how to fine-tune the starting food recommendations, so you feel the best and are satisfied. Avoiding hunger was a critical objective for me when I was fine-tuning my diet.

There are a number of definitions for Functional Health. When I chose my company name with the words "Functional Health" included, I was trying to get across the idea of all parts of our body working correctly. The Metabolic Chaos® concept is based on the idea that all of our systems need to be functioning correctly. If one system is out of balance, it will affect other body systems. (Also see page 4 in the DRESS For Health Success Guide on the Resources page.)

A Health Coach and a Wellness Coach are the same thing. The classic Health Coach is trained in coaching techniques and helps you implement your doctor's instructions to achieve your goals. Other than your doctor's instructions, you have to guess what your goals should be. The FDN motto is “Test, don't guess.” An FDNP will run functional labs that enable us to make personalized diet and lifestyle recommendations just for you. Some of my older FDN peers started out as Health Coaches and were frustrated at the lack of real health changes their clients had made. The foundation FDN course contains less pure coaching training than a Health Coach gets. So, a Health Coaching course is available, along with other supplemental classes.

Many people have weight loss as a goal. We treat excess weight as just one of many health symptoms to consider when developing a custom set of lifestyle recommendations for you. We have observed that many people lose weight when they switch to eating healthy foods that are best suited to their bodies. That isn't true for everyone, including me. So, I appreciated the recommended diet pointing me to more satisfying, healthy foods where I could be in a calorie deficit and lose a pound or two a week without hunger.

The association I am a member of has a Medical Director Program. So, when you get your test results, some of them that need a doctor will have our doctor's name on the test as the physician. Our doctors have reviewed the training provided to a certified FDNP and are confident that we are able to review the test results with you. Also, if I should have a question about the test results, there is a whole group of people in our Medical Director Program that I can review them with. Our program has doctors in multiple countries who assist with oversight in their countries.

We don't take insurance. That frees us up to help you in ways that insurance won't allow. The current medical system is mostly set up for urgent care and doesn't do much to prevent disease compared to what is possible. After-tax health savings funds can be used.

Many people feel substantially better after a couple of months. So, the 90-day package that I offer seems to be the best fit. Also, you should be fully educated after 3 months of working together and able to keep going.

If you are local to Elizabethtown, Kentucky, USA, then that is possible. I would mainly consider it if you have difficulty with access to a personal computer for the first few Zoom meetings. A cell phone can also be used for Zoom meetings, but it may be difficult to see everything displayed on a small screen. I don't think the in-person meetings would improve things and would mainly increase the time taken.
